Google, Sony, Intel Team Up for Google TV
March 19, 2010
Google, Sony and Intel recently entered into a cooperation agreement, whereby they plan to jointly develop an IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) platform, dubbed Google TV, which allows TV viewers to access Internet content easily, the Wall Street Journal reported on March 18, adding that the platform can be incorporated with future TVs, Blu-ray players or STBs (Set-Top-Boxes). The platform, to be used in a device manufactured by Sony, will be operated based on Google Android OS and will feature Intel's Atom chips, according to the same source. Google, Sony, and Intel, however, were not immediately available for comment. Meanwhile, Logitech is reportedly also involved in this initiative to develop and provide peripheral devices, such as keyboard and remote control, for Google TV.
